You Could Be Breaking this Michigan Law & Not Even Realize It

If you’re currently cohabiting with someone and you’re not married…surprise! You’re going to jail!

Just kidding. But you are breaking a law in Michigan that went into effect in 1931. WXYZ Detroit reports that ‘gross lewdness’ applied to those “living in sin.”

Unmarried, unrelated people of the opposite genders living together could face up to one year in prison and a $1,000 fine.

Obviously this is is ridiculous; which is why State Senator Steve Bieda is trying to get rid of the outdated law. [In the interview below] Sen. Beieda explains that while it won’t be hard to get it repealed, because its still technically on the books, it can affect couples when doing their taxes.

Mississippi is the only other state where this is illegal.

So, congrats. Not only are you a sinner but you’re also a rule breaker. Don’t worry, though – Netflix & Chill away – because no one’s going to come knocking on your door to take you to jail… not for this at least 😉
