Usher, Kanye West, Phylicia Rashad Among BET Honors Honorees

Usher Raymond IV, and Kanye West and Phylicia Rashad were among five honorees at the eighth annual BET Honors on Saturday.

Raymond, a recording artist, songwriter, actor, producer, television personality and philanthropist known professional as Usher, received the Musical Arts Award.

West, a musician, producer, artist, author and designer, received the Visionary Award.

Rashad, a Tony Award-winning actress, singer and stage director, received the Theatrical Arts Award.

Also honored in ceremonies at Warner Theater in Washington, D.C., were Microsoft Corp. Chairman John W. Thompson (Technology and Business Award); and The Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of African Art executive director and former Spelman College president Johnnetta Betsch Cole (Education Award).

Hosted by television personality, actor and comedian Wayne Brady, the star-studded affair included Mary J. Blige, Trey Songz, Charlie Wilson, Jill Scott, Ne-Yo, Patti LaBelle and K. Michelle. The presenters included Anthony Anderson, Bobby Brown, Diahann Carroll and Glynn Turman.

The show airs at 9 p.m. EST Feb. 23 on BET.
