Michigan State Protests Focus on Columnist George Will’s Rape Stance, Women’s Dignity

An honorary doctorate being awarded by Michigan State University to Washington Post columnist George Will at MSU's fall commencement ceremonies is the focal point of protests in East Lansing today.

More than 800 people had RSVP'd and were expected this morning for protests that were also held earlier this week, according to organizers.

The ignitor is that the protests organizers say Will, who taught at MSU briefly the 1970s. They claim Will has a history of provocative statements and writings compromising and discrediting the severity of rape.

MSU President Lou Anna K. Simon has released a statement saying that while the conservative Will's "visit will be painful for many, ... it does not mean the university wishes to cause survivors of sexual assault distress. And it does not mean we are backing away from our commitment to continuously improving our response to sexual assault."

John Legend, Chrissy Teigen Send Food Trucks to New York Protesters

Singer-songwriter John Legend and his wife, model Chrissy Teigen, on Sunday lent their support to demonstrators in New York protesting the Eric Garner and Ferguson grand jury decisions by sending out a fleet of food trucks to serve free food to them.

Neither Legend, 35, nor Teigen, 29, appeared at the rally nor took direct credit, but Teigen retweeted this message to her followers: "Thank you @johnlegend @chrissyteigen 3-6pm. FREE food trucks by Trader Joe's Union Sq. @ophelporhush #FergusontoNYC #NYC2Ferguson."

President Barack Obama Talks with BET About Unrest Following Grand Jury Decisions On Fatal Shootings [Video]

In an exclusive interview with BET News, President Barack Obama addressed community concerns and calls for justice and equality after recent grand jury decisions and hopes to find meaningful solutions.

"This isn't going to be solved overnight," Obama said in an excerpt of the interview released by BET Networks.

BET’s “106 & Park” will air a portion of the interview at 5 p.m. EST Monday (Dec. 8), BET Networks announced Sunday. The full interview will air immediately following at 6 p.m. EST Monday in “BET News Presents: A Conversation with President Barack Obama.”
