Chuck D Weighs in on Oscars’ Use of Public Enemy’s ‘Fight the Power’
“The song ‘Fight the Power’ is beyond me & the crew," he wrote. "The point of the song is a call to making change eventually not just applauding the thought."

The greatest outrage stirred by last week’s announcement of the Oscar nominees was not the Best Picture snub for Carol or the absurd exclusion of Todd Haynes from the Best Director category, but rather the troubling homogeneity of the twenty men and women nominated in the acting categories. Specifically, many have taken issue with the fact that this year’s Oscar slate looks about as white as a Whole Foods before noon on a Sunday. The social media hashtag OscarsSoWhite resurfaced within minutes after the nomination announcement had finished, and Spike Lee has even called for a boycott of the ceremony as a response to the blatant lack of diversity in this year’s picks.
Last years Oscars host Neil Patrick Harris said almost immediately after the broadcast that he “doubted” he would ever do it again, explaining, “I don’t know that my family nor my soul could take it.” Which, of course, meant that the search for a replacement was on almost immediately. But, if you’re looking for just one person, you may be barking up the wrong tree. This year’s Oscars producers say “there will be multiple hosts for sure.”
When it comes to taking fashion risks on the red carpet, color choice plays a huge role. This year, Emma Stone did just that when she picked her beaded, yellow-green gown. However, one tried-but-true way actresses can stand out from the crowd on the red carpet is by rocking a striking, red look.
The romantic drama Beyond the Lights didn't get much love from moviegoers despite being a solid film released last year. At least the movie's Oscar-nominated song, "Grateful," gets a proper representation thanks to Rita Ora at the 87th Annual Academy Awards on Sunday night (Feb. 22).
The 2015 Oscars were an awards show to remember! From memorable performances to Neil Patrick Harris' hilarious hosting moments, this was one buzz-worthy night.
Rapper Common and singer John Legend performed their inspirational song 'Glory' at the 87th annual Academy Awards on Sunday night (Feb. 22). The collaborative tune is from the Oprah Winfrey-produced film, 'Selma,' which is up for two awards: Best Original Song and Best Picture.
It seemed inevitable, and there were some other great contenders, but J.K. Simmons has been awarded the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor at the 2015 Academy Awards. Simmons took home the statue for his fantastic, unnerving role as Fletcher, the intimidating band instructor in Whiplash.
