Rihanna Is RIAA’s First to Surpass 100 Million Song Certifications

Rihanna hasn’t released a new studio album in almost four years, but she stills sells more records than pretty much everyone else.

The Recording Industry Association of America (often referred to as the RIAA) announced today that Rihanna is their only artist whose singles garnered more than 100 million Gold and Platinum certifications, making her RIAA’s artist with the most digital single awards.

Cary Sherman, the Chairman and CEO of RIAA, said in a press release, “Gold & Platinum is the industry’s premier way to celebrate achievement in the marketplace. We’ve given awards to artists for nearly 60 years, but it’s rare that we have the opportunity to recognize a milestone like the one Rihanna has reached. Congratulations to Rihanna! She has not only surpassed RIAA’s one-hundred million mark, but also is the first artist to do so. It’s an historic feat and a testament to an extraordinary career.”

The press release says the certifications encompass 37 singles Rihanna’s released over the course of her career so far. “We Found Love” earned a 9X multi-Platinum award, “Stay,” “What’s My Name” and “Only Girl (In The World)” all earned a 6X multi-Platinum awards. And for those who think Rihanna’s best work is behind her, it should also be noted that “FourFiveSeconds” earned a 2X multi-Platinum award while “Bitch Better Have My Money” also went Platinum once.

We wouldn’t be surprised if Rihanna hit 200 million certifications in the next few years, if only she’d release R8 already.
