Pharrell Williams Nabs Oscar Nomination for ‘Despicable Me 2′ Song ‘Happy’ [Video]

Veteran producer Pharrell Williams has garnered an Oscar nomination in the Best Original Song category for “Happy.”
The infectious tune appears in the animated flick, ‘Despicable Me 2.’
Williams, nicknamed Skateboard P, expressed his shock by the nomination on his Twitter feed today.
The 40-year-old musician retweeted the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences’ tweet of the Best Original Song nominees and added two emojis — a surprised face and hands of prayer to symbolize thanking God.
Pharrell’s Oscar nod follows his seven Grammy nominations for his contributions on two of the biggest songs in 2013: Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” and Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky.”
There have only been two artists from the hip-hop community who have won the Best Original Oscar: Eminem for his anthemic hit, “Lose Yourself” and Three 6 Mafia in 2005, for “It’s Hard out Here for a Pimp.”
