Well, everyone’s brackets are now officially busted (at least most Michiganders’). Friday afternoon, the second-seed Michigan State University Spartans were upset by fifteen-seed Middle Tennessee 90-81.

Middle Tennessee won the jump ball at the beginning of the game and never looked back. The Spartans never led in the matchup.

The Spartans trailed by as much as thirteen points at times during the match, bringing themselves back to within three points halfway through the first half.

It seems as though the Spartans and coach Izzo simply weren’t prepared for what Middle Tennessee would bring. At the end of the first half, MSU trailed by six (41-35).

The second half of the game showed some promise for the Spartans, but they simply couldn’t bridge the gap. They came within two points early in the second half, but quickly fell behind again.

With just a minute left in the game, the Spartans fell behind by five, though they tried valiantl to make a comeback. Middle Tennessee’s Potts, Buford, and Upshaw combined for nine points in the final minute of the game, resulting in a 90-81 victory for the Blue Raiders.

Is this the biggest upset in NCAA Tournament history?
