Love Your Mail Person? Don’t Tip Them This Year

Sounds odd, but there’s a reason for it…

Apparently, mail carriers are not supposed to accept gifts worth more than $20, and even then it cannot be cash.

As federal employees, postal workers have to follow The Standards of Ethical Conduct for Employees of the Executive Branch, which says they cannot accept cash, checks, or gift cards that can be exchanged for cash from people along their routes.

So, how do you tell your West Michigan mail carrier thank you and wish them a happy holiday?

Well, they can accept gifts under $20, but not more than $50 worth of gifts from any one customer in any one calendar year.

So maybe a gift card for food or coffee that’s under $20 could be a good idea? According to the Washington Post, the gift card “must be issued from a single retailer instead of a bank or shopping mall.”

I’d say a bottle of wine, but apparently that’s a no-no too, according to this article from Thought Co

What do you give your mail person for Christmas? Or if if you are a mail carrier, what’s a gift you’ve received that didn’t suck?
