Jennifer Hudson Dedicates Song to Late Mother on ‘JHUD’ [Audio]
This week saw release of singer Jennifer Hudson‘s “JHUD,” which she described as “an album full of colors.”
In an interview with Billboard, the 33-year-old Chicago native revealed her third studio effort includes a tribute song to her mother, who was killed by her son-in-law in 2008.
“‘Moan’ is probably the most personal, intimate song I’ve ever sang, written, recorded, all of that in one,” Hudson said. “I wrote the song in tribute to my my mother, she used to tell us growing up, ‘If something hurts, if you moan, it’ll make you feel better.”
She added: “That’s what I do, I moan, I sing… that’s my go-to space. It lifts me up and it guides my every emotion.”
In communicating her feeling in songs, Hudson says, “Music is so powerful, its a universal language.”
“JHUD” is currently No. 10 on the Billboard 200 album chart.
