Although it was previously reported that Jennifer Hudson would be honored at the 2014 People’s Choice Awards on Wednesday night, her reaction to actually receiving an award was something that easily warms the heart.

A vision in white, J-Hud was in tears as a video was presented, which showcased her work with the Julian D. King Gift Foundation. She started the organization with her sister, Julia Hudson, in honor of their late nephew Julian King.

Hudson walked up to the stage with her sister and began her acceptance speech with something that she said when she won the Academy Award for her role in “Dreamgirls” in 2007.

“I want to start by saying what I said when I won an Oscar. Look what God can do,” she rejoiced.

“That’s what we want to instill in our children, if we can do it, you can do it, too,” the singer continued. “It’s one thing to be a celebrity and have so much of what we have, but it’s nothing compared to making a difference. … Where we come from and who shot who, but we want to show that’s it’s starting at home. It’s starting in Chicago.”

The Julian D. King Gift Foundation’s mission is to find ways to provide a stable and positive environment and make experiences for kids so that they can grow to become confident and happy adults and spread that positivity to their communities.

Before ending her speech, Hudson also dedicated the award to her family.

“We want to dedicate this to our mother because she said without family you are nothing,” Hudson said. “And to our brother, if he barbecue, he barbecue for the whole neighborhood.”
