See Your Favorite Hip-Hop and R&B Album Covers Featuring Kittens

Face it, the internet loves cats. From kitty memes to felines playing pianos, the web just can’t get enough of their cuteness. Digi cat art goes to another level with the hilarious creation of a Tumblr that gives iconic album covers the kitten treatment.

Alfra Martini created The Kitten Covers in 2011, which featured revamped covers for New Order’s 1985 LP, Low-Life and the 1993 Radiohead record, Pablo Honey. Since then, the Brooklyn, N.Y. artist has recreated covers for a variety of genres throughout the years. So The Boombox took a look through Martini’s collection and found 21 album covers that range from hip-hop and R&B to funk and reggae. Whether it’s D’Angelo‘s shirtless portrait for his 2000 LP, Voodoo, or the more somber cover of Marvin Gaye‘s 1971 album, What’s Going On, all records are fair game.

Some of the art goes as far back as Little Richard‘s first album from 1957, while there is art that takes a more creative turn like the colorful and graphic imaging on Janet Jackson‘s Control. There are also a number of covers that depict some of the most legendary hip-hop records of all time in cat form, from N.W.A.‘s Straight Outta Compton to OutKast‘s Stankonia to A Tribe Called Quest‘s Midnight Marauders. And even though some of these rappers are lyrically intense and serious, the cats add a bit of humor and cuteness that turn the most gangsta MCs into balls of adorable fur.

No matter how you feel about these four-legged creatures, the recreated images are too good to be ignored. See your favorite hip-hop and R&B album covers featuring kittens and prepare to feel all fluffy inside.
