Good Grief, Here’s Another ‘Peanuts Movie’ Trailer [Video]

Dig this, blockheads: The ‘Peanuts’ gang, originally created by cartoonist Charles Schulz, have appeared in so many incarnations in their 65-year history. They’ve been a comic strip, a series of much-beloved television specials, a Broadway musical, greeting card staples, and even the successful pitchmen for life insurance. Now, for the first time, they’re becoming a 3D feature film, with this year’s ‘The Peanuts Movie.’

The late Schulz’s son, Craig Schulz, and his son, Bryan Schulz, collaborated on the screenplay for the new film and produced it as well, along with ‘Bridesmaids’ and ‘The Heat’ director Paul Feig. Here’s the official synopsis:

Snoopy, the world’s most lovable beagle—and flying ace—embarks upon his greatest mission as he takes to the skies to pursue his arch-nemesis The Red Baron, while his best pal, Charlie Brown, begins his own epic quest.

I imagine some ‘Peanuts’ purists will immediately dismiss the 3D versions of Charlie Brown and the rest of the gang, but I have to say I really like the animation style on display in this trailer. It’s obviously computer generated, but the edges are rough in a way that evokes Schulz’s original art style and those great ‘Peanuts’ TV specials. It feels very childish, and I mean that in the best way possible. There’s a sweetness and an innocence to the visuals that’s very charming. If the junior Schulzes capture the senior Schulz’s humor as well as they seem to have nailed his imagery, ‘The Peanuts Movie’ could be a contender for the best animated movie of 2015.
