Ed Sheeran Casts Ray Liotta in ‘Bloodstream’ Visuals [Video]

It’s finally here! Ed Sheeran and Rudimental’s “Bloodstream” video premiered today (March 23) for the YouTube Music Awards, and it’s everything we didn’t know we wanted.

Full of rich imagery and searing loneliness, “Bloodstream” tells the story of a washed up rock star who runs from his demons via fast women and copious amounts of whiskey. Played by Ray Liotta, who you may remember from Goodfellas, the graying rocker actually rides a horse through the gorgeous house, wearing a dirty bathrobe and brooding stare.

It’s a fitting visual for the song, a rawer, angrier reworking by Rudimental on which Sheeran sings substance-dependent lyrics such as: “I’ve been looking for a lover / Thought I’d find her in a bottle,” and “I feel the chemicals burn in my bloodstream / Fading out again.”

Sheeran first teased his adoring fans with a 20-second clip of the new video last week, and at first glance we thought the redheaded crooner might be taking a page from Taylor Swift‘s “Blank Space” playbook, what with the ostentatious mansion and all. But as the story plunges into darkness, the comparison is squashed.

In addition to releasing this fabulous new video, Ed has also announced that he’s launching his own record label. Can you guess the name? Gingerbread. Too cute!
