Bipartisan General Election Candidates’ Meet-and-Greet Slated Thursday

Kent County Black Elected Officials and the Grand Rapids-based Voices Not Heard in Michigan are co-hosting a bipartisan candidates meet-and-greet for the general election Thursday night in Grand Rapids.

Thirteen candidates in the Nov. 4 election are slated to be on hand for the gathering, which is from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Gerald R. Ford Academic Center, 851 Madison Avenue SE.

D.C. Elementary Student Disappointed That President Obama’s Not Beyonce

President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama made a surprise stop at The Inspired Teaching School, a Washington, D.C., charter school, on Thursday afternoon to participate in a community service project.

He and other volunteers filled backpacks with books and toys for homeless children at the Inspired Teaching School to mark the September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance. The president also assisted volunteers in building an outdoor playground.

The visit came much to the dismay of a young girl, who had hoped the surprise visitor would be Beyoncé Knowles.
