Harriet Tubman Biopic ‘Harriet’ Headed to Theaters

Abolitionist, humanitarian, and regular fourth-grade history report subject Harriet Tubman may very well be the most significant black woman to have ever lived. She ferried what scholars estimate to be over seventy runaway slaves to freedom through her Underground Railroad network of sanctuary, and to this day continues to provide inspiration to anyone struggling to do the right thing in a status quo that enforces injustice. Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs Issues Statement on Oscar Diversity

The greatest outrage stirred by last week’s announcement of the Oscar nominees was not the Best Picture snub for Carol or the absurd exclusion of Todd Haynes from the Best Director category, but rather the troubling homogeneity of the twenty men and women nominated in the acting categories. Specifically, many have taken issue with the fact that this year’s Oscar slate looks about as white as a Whole Foods before noon on a Sunday. Take a Look at the All-New Batcave in ‘Batman v Superman’

The Batcave is more than just Bruce Wayne’s headquarters in his unending fight against the crime the clogs the streets of Gotham, it’s his special place. His sanctuary. It’s where he can go to get away from it all, though the sophisticated rig of surveillance equipment also gives him unprecedented, questionably ethical access to it all. In the comics, the Batcave was where Batman kept all of his souvenirs from past battles (shout out to the Giant Penny), and in the Christopher Nolan pictures, it was the Morgan Freeman-played Lucius Fox’s fortress of moral ambiguity. But for the upcoming crossover film ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,’ the newly minted Batfleck will get a cave all his own.

New ‘Ghostbusters’ Photo Makes a Good Argument for the New ‘Ghostbusters’

There’s still quite a while to go until the July 15, 2016 release date of Paul Feig’s all-female Ghostbusters reboot, but the fires of fan anticipation must be continually stoked if they’re going to burn strong enough to last through the winter, and the wasteland of pop-cultural apathy that is the month of January...
