Apple Introduces iPad Pro, Newest iPhone Editions, Updated Apple TV & More

It’s September, which means the annual #AppleEvent where the geniuses in Cupertino, California, unveil the latest editions of Apple’s signature products. Here’s a quick rundown of what happened.

This time around, we got our first looks at:

  • the iPad Pro, a souped-up tablet designed for businesses
  • the all-new Apple Pencil, a stylus for the new iPad model
  • the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus, with software updates and hardware improvements to the popular smartphone
  • something called 3D Touch, which is the latest step in touch-screen technology
  • updates to Apple TV and the Apple Watch

The iPad Pro is larger than previous models, with a 12.9-inch screen. It’s also faster with better screen resolution, and will use iOS9. It will be available for purchase in November, starting at $799. You can also pick up the new Apple Pencil ($99) for use with the iPad Pro. The Pencil is like a Stylus, but with lots of new features and a user-friendly interface (at least according to the Apple people; we’ll withhold judgment).

The iPhone 6S and 6S Plus are, like the previous S versions, updated but familiar editions of Apple’s iconic phone. They look just like the 6 and 6 Plus, but will come with improved speed, camera, a new set of colors and a stronger exterior. They will be ready for pre-order on September 12, starting at $200.

The new iPhones will also incorporate a new piece of technology, which Apple is calling 3D Touch. Here’s a glimpse at how it works:

Updates to the Apple Watch include a new operating system called Watch OS2 and new luxury models. Apple TV also gets its own operating system, TV OS, which will be largely app-centered. So you can watch HBO GO, Netflix, Hulu and everything else on it now. It now comes with the Siri Remote, too, which should make navigating the software much easier. The new Apple TV will be available soon for $149.
